my fairy is two: part 1

kayden turned 2 on august 14th and i planned a small fairy party for my fairy.

if you’re friends with me on facebook, disregard this post since you’ve already seen all the pictures:)

i only had a week to plan this, because initially i was only going to have a small family dinner. the week of her birthday i decided to invite a few of her little friends and put some effort into it.

i found the mushroom welcome sign at hobby lobby. it’s still on our door of course…

i hung butterfly decals (made by martha stewart bought at joanne) on the back doors and put a craft table outside for the kids. i bought little wooden birdhouses for $1 with paint and brushes also from joanne to keep them entertained. it also was a perfect craft for a fairy party in my opinion!

there was fairy dust of course…

and fairy wings for each girl…. (i hung them on jute with clothespins)

fairy goodies bags…

i made each girl a fairy wand too, and used lots of apothecary jars and mason jars. did you know fairies love popcorn? :)

more pictures to come so stay tuned…

i love this blog, and when maryam asked me to do a guest post on breastfeeding, i was so excited! check out this adorable blog and my little interview:)

Hi, my name is Kayden, and I’m so excited it feels like Fall in Atlanta today!

14 weeks

i’m almost 14 weeks… and i’m feeling pretty good. most of the world found out today that we’re having another boy:)

boy, girl, boy. i like patterns, and i love having a boy, but i have to admit, i was hoping for a sister for kayden. after seeing that baby swimming around though, opening and closing his mouth, i fell in love. a sweet baby boy to add to our family. very exciting.

now the hard part of agreeing on a name. i’ve loved the name silas since i was pregnant with kayden and put in back in the name bank when we found out she was a girl. no k names this time around… this naming a baby business is tough work!

my due date is march 7th and my sister’s wedding is march 10th. this is going to be interesting to say the least…

i’m still trying to figure out where i want to birth this time. hospital or home… my midwife now does home births only so i feel like this is a sign of sorts. again discussing it with frankie.

those are all the updates for now, and thank you for those who follow me on twitter for all the love today! ya’ll really know how to make a preggo feel special!

oops i did it again

i posted a picture on facebook tonight. there’s no going back.

call me crazy. but somehow (i know how…) our family of 4 will be a family of 5 (eek!!!) in march. march 3rd. i’m 12 weeks preggo with our third baby. i thought i was 6 weeks, then went to my ultrasound today and was confirmed at 12 weeks. do you know what that feels like? to think you’re 6 weeks and then be told your 6 weeks further along? done with your first trimester? pretty amazing.

i’m blessed to say, my pregnancies are extremely easy. no sickness, not tired… i feel pretty good.

here’s to the next 7 months going by smoothly and comfortably. :)

Since the moment I found out I was pregnant with a girl, I dreamt of the day I’d sign her up for ballet. Today was that day. We celebrated by stopping at the dance store for an outfit too. My beautiful little ballerina…

kian’s karate lesson

since the first time we started talking about having children and our plans for their extracurricular activities, frankie said his son would be in karate. he did it most of his childhood through his teenage years, and received a black belt. i on the other hand wasn’t wild about the idea. but after hearing all the pros… i decided to sign him up. kian is extremely shy around people he doesn’t know so i knew the first class (which was a private session) would be a challenge.

and it was.

he wouldn’t let go of my dress the whole time, i had to stay on the mat with him and he barely spoke louder than a whisper. the instructor was so great with him though, and was able to get a few kicks and iya’s outta him. it’s the cutest thing in the world i tell ya!

the uniform alone just kills me. i’ve been begging him to wear it, but he’s not cooperating:)

his classes officially start august 24th so expect lots of karate spam :)

kayden’s birthday cake

my little baby girl is not so little anymore!! 2 on sunday?! how the heck did this happen? i am just shocked that she is peeing on a potty and talking… time really flies.

if you know me or read this blog, you know i’m obsessed with throwing parties. one day when my babies are grown, i might become a party planner:)

i usually spend a month planning and getting things together. this year i started planning kayden’s birthday on monday. monday as in yesterday. as in one week prep time… this is so unlike me. i’m scrambling to get the loose ends tied up but i have picked out her cake and sent the order in! progress! it is beautiful too so i thought i’d start sharing some party preparations this week. kayden’s birthday week here! :)

sister is engaged!

my one and only sister (younger by three years) got engaged to her boyfriend of three years not too long ago. frankie and i decided to have an engagement party for them at our house this weekend. there were so many cute little details i wish i could share them all, but here are a few favorites.

if you’ve been following this blog, you know i have a love affair with paper lanterns. i own about 3800:) the runner is made from burlap (one of my favorite materials). my sister bought 14 ft of it, cut it, and my step mom sewed the beautiful ruffle on it. (she also sells these!) that’s our new farmhouse table. the one i tweet about all the time. i love it. it’s 12 ft long and perfect for our big family. frankie built it and has been asked by so many of our friends and family if he can make one for them:)

the slip covers for the chairs are just pillow cases! my amazing step mom somehow sewed the tops to fit the chairs perfectly. my sister made burlap bows and hung them onto the backs with some jute.

the theme was rustic yet pretty, not too masculine. it was a southern affair, complete with the best barbecue and sweet tea in mason jars.

the mason jars had tags on them, so people could write their name and keep their cup all night

the dessert table… her future mother in law made strawberry shortcake and banana pudding in mason jars, tied on a spoon with some jute, and added a picture of the couple on top. genius!

another view

so glad we were able to pull it all off with only a few days of prep time. i’m so excited for the wedding now!!

we play, we learn

my new favorite blog obsession is play at home mom. it has been such a great resource for me, being home with two toddlers. we stay really busy, and i try to do at least 1 “science” project with them a day. each day i alternate what they will learn about.

a typical week looks like this:

monday: abc’s and letter recognition, how to spell their names.

tuesday: numbers and number recognition

wednesday: learning how to lace string through holes

thursday: sensory play

friday: water play

that’s not including outings to indoor play places, play dates, park, library etc. there is so much to do to keep toddlers busy, and mommies exhausted :)

of course it changes week to week, but basically i try and cover all these bases. i leave crayons and big pieces of paper out all day on the table for them also, along with play dough. i really try to keep them engaged and busy. t.v is allowed before nap time, and one morning show. so about 45 min a day if that.

here’s a fun, easy project to do with your kids. all you need is baking soda and vinegar. this kept my kids entertained for awhile, they loved watching the bubbles (volcanos kian called it) and hearing the sounds the baking soda made as it came in contact with the vinegar.

added some food coloring of course…

kian begs to do this everyday now. with it costing under $3, and being so fun, why not?

try it with your toddler! they’ll love it, i’m sure.
